Driven By Experience

Achieving Wellness

Dr. Ayer was inspired convert her hematology and oncology practice to a weight loss and wellness practice as result of her on wellness journey. After losing 60 pounds personally, she found that she reversed her chronic pain, sleep apnea, and tachycardia. Being amazed at the health benefits that she felt, she decided to focus on helping patients to weight loss and reverse disease.

Dr. Ayer was driven by the lack of support that she personally felt from the medical community. Doctors often make weight loss sound as simple as 'just eat less and move more." They often lack true empathy for overweight or obese patients. It is Dr. Ayer's goal to make obesity care readily available regardless of income or insurance status.

Medical Weight Loss Rooted in Integrative

Physician-Led Care

At Florida Weight Loss & Wellness, obesity medicine is practiced as part of a comprehensive, integrative approach to health — not a standalone diet program.

We recognize obesity as a complex, chronic medical condition influenced by genetics, metabolism, hormones, lifestyle, and environment. Our role is to evaluate these factors carefully and develop a personalized treatment plan that supports sustainable weight loss and long-term metabolic health.

A Medical Approach — Not a One-Size-Fits-All Program

Why Obesity Requires Medical Care

For many patients, weight gain is not due to lack of effort. Factors such as insulin resistance, hormonal changes, medications, stress, sleep disruption, and metabolic adaptation often make weight loss difficult despite appropriate diet and exercise.

Our obesity medicine services focus on:

  • Identifying underlying metabolic contributors

  • Treating obesity as a medical condition

  • Providing physician supervision and ongoing monitoring

  • Supporting long-term success, not short-term fixes

Our Integrative Obesity Medicine Model

Personalized. Thoughtful. Evidence-Based.

Every patient begins with a comprehensive medical evaluation. We take time to understand:

  • Your medical and weight history

  • Prior weight-loss attempts and responses

  • Lifestyle factors, stress, and sleep

  • Metabolic and hormonal influences

  • Your health goals and preferences

From there, we develop a customized obesity medicine plan that may include medical therapy, lifestyle support, and wellness strategies — always tailored to your individual needs.

Medical Therapies & Treatment Options

Medication When Appropriate — Always with Oversight

For some patients, FDA-approved anti-obesity medications may be an appropriate part of treatment. These medications are used judiciously and responsibly, with careful monitoring and ongoing physician involvement.

Treatment plans may include:

  • GLP-1–based medications when clinically indicated

  • Adjustments based on response and tolerance

  • Regular follow-up and reassessment

Medication is never used in isolation. It is part of a broader plan focused on metabolic health, sustainability, and patient education.

Lifestyle & Metabolic Support

Beyond the Prescription

Successful obesity treatment requires more than medication alone. Our integrative approach includes attention to:

  • Nutrition and eating patterns

  • Physical activity appropriate for your body and goals

  • Stress management and sleep optimization

  • Long-term behavioral and metabolic support

We work collaboratively with patients to build strategies that are realistic, achievable, and sustainable.
