American Board of Obesity Medicine Certified Physician Led

Driven by Experience

Dr. Ayer was inspired to convert her hematology and oncology practice to a weight loss and wellness practice as a result of her own wellness journey. After losing 60 pounds personally, she found that she reversed her chronic pain, sleep apnea, and tachycardia. Being amazed at the health benefits that she felt, she decided to focus on helping patients with weight loss and reversing disease.

Dr. Ayer was driven by the lack of support that she personally felt from the medical community. Doctors often make weight loss sound as simple as 'just eat less and move more.' They often lack true empathy for overweight or obese patients. It is Dr. Ayer's goal to make obesity care readily available regardless of income or insurance status.

Dr. Ayer is board certified by the American Board of Obesity Medicine. The ABOM certifies physicians in the United States who specialize in obesity medicine. The ABOM's mission is to improve the management of obesity. Certification as an ABOM diplomate signifies specialized knowledge in the practice of obesity medicine and distinguishes a physician as having achieved competency in obesity care.

Medical Weight Loss Rooted in Integrative Medicine

Physician-Directed Treatment for Obesity and Metabolic Health

At Florida Weight Loss and Wellness Clinic, we recognize that obesity is a complex medical condition influenced by metabolism, hormones, genetics, lifestyle, and environmental factors.

For many people, weight gain is not simply the result of willpower or personal discipline. It is often driven by biological processes that make long-term weight loss difficult without medical support.

Our clinic provides physician-directed medical weight loss programs designed to help patients achieve meaningful and sustainable improvements in weight and overall health.

Obesity Is a Medical Condition

Understanding the Biology of Weight Gain

Obesity is now recognized as a chronic disease that affects metabolism, hormone signaling, and appetite regulation.

Several factors can contribute to weight gain and difficulty losing weight, including:

  • Hormonal changes

  • Insulin resistance

  • Chronic inflammation

  • Sleep disruption

  • Stress and cortisol imbalance

  • Genetic predisposition

  • Certain medications

Because of these biological influences, many patients find that traditional dieting alone is not enough to produce lasting weight loss.

Medical treatment can help address these underlying mechanisms and support healthier metabolic function.

Our programs may include a combination of:

  • Physical activity recommendations

  • Sleep optimization

  • Stress management strategies

  • Medications when appropriate

This comprehensive approach allows us to address multiple drivers of weight gain, rather than focusing on diet alone.

Weight Loss Medications

Modern Treatments That Help Regulate Appetite and Metabolism

Recent advances in obesity medicine have led to the development of medications that help regulate appetite, satiety, and metabolic signaling.

These medications can help reduce hunger and improve the body’s ability to regulate food intake.

Commonly prescribed medications may include GLP-1 receptor agonists, such as semaglutide and similar therapies.

These medications work by:

  • Slowing stomach emptying

  • Increasing feelings of fullness

  • Reducing appetite

  • Supporting improved blood sugar regulation

When used appropriately under medical supervision, these medications can help patients achieve meaningful weight loss while supporting metabolic health.

Lifestyle and Behavioral Support

Building Habits That Sustain Long-Term Results

Medication alone is rarely sufficient for lasting weight loss.

For this reason, our programs also emphasize lifestyle strategies that support metabolic health, including:

  • Balanced nutrition

  • Regular physical activity

  • Healthy sleep patterns

  • Stress management

Developing sustainable habits helps patients maintain weight loss and improve overall well-being.

Integrative Medicine and Weight Management

Addressing the Whole Person

Our clinic practices integrative medicine, which recognizes that many aspects of health influence body weight.

We often evaluate factors such as:

  • Hormonal balance

  • Nutritional status

  • Sleep quality

  • Stress levels

  • Chronic inflammation

By addressing these underlying influences, we aim to support long-term metabolic health and sustainable weight management.
